When war heroes return home, many are faced with the daunting task of finding a job during a time of high unemployment.

Many find that their military experiences didn't prepare them to easily transition back into civilian life. Skills in operating a submarine or repairing a specialized military helicopter, for instance, aren't necessarily hot job fields on American soil.

More than 21 percent of all veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq are unemployed, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In Erie County, veterans account for 10 percent of all unemployment at any time, said Gene Taylor, a veteran representative at Your Job Store.

About 100 veterans a month seek his help in finding employment.
