For those workers laid off in Frederick County, help is at hand.

Frederick Community College will hold a training fair from 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Business and Employment Center. The center is at 5340 Spectrum Drive.

"We are calling it 'New Careers for a New Year,'" said Laurie Holden, director of Frederick County Workforce Services. "Those who have been laid off from a Frederick County company are invited to attend to learn about training opportunities in hot job fields."

Frederick County Workforce Services offers help in training and finding a job including basic computer, r?sum? and interview skills and job searches.

Employees laid off from a number of companies and government agencies are eligible for training funding through the agency.

Those include BP Solar, JP Morgan Chase, Frederick County and city governments, Frederick County Public Schools, Tamko, Banner School, Blue Mountain Express, Citi Mortgage and Trans Tech.

One of the hot skill training programs is in J Standard Soldering, Holden said.

"We are partnering with two local companies who have had a hard time filling these positions," she said. "Through our Rapid Response grant funding, we are retraining former BP Solar employees to earn this new certification."
